Twas all about the fonts this week!
Here's a roundup of a few fun websites I found to help you understand font pairing, font spacing, and custom fonts...
Having difficulty knowing which fonts to pair together? You'll love these fun & addictive apps! I recommend these 2 sites to anyone struggling with font usage and font pairing.
Find the perfect font combo for your next project here: www.typegenius.com
This is a "typographic dating game that helps you learn how to pair typefaces." www.typeconnection.com
This app focuses on the spacing between letters. Most designers don't use the fonts as they come - they usually fix the spacing between the letters to be evenly spaced out. Many font types do not automatically space letters evenly. Ever notice that?
THE KERNING GAME: Your mission is to achieve pleasant and readable text by distributing the space between letters. http://type.method.ac
Lastly, custom fonts. Ever wondered how some logos or marketing pieces use really custom fonts? Sometimes it's just a matter of taking your everyday usual font and manipulating it.
Check out this fun practice site which gives you a little peak into what you can do with your fonts in a vector-based program like Illustrator. http://shape.method.ac
**ps. Looking to create your own logo? Stay tuned for the DIY Logo Design Workbook coming out the first week of February 2016. Get on the beta list here.
Oh, and If you're not already in there, I would love for you to join my DIY Designer Facebook Group and take the time to introduce yourself once you're added! I regularly post tips, advice and helpful articles, as well as offer opportunities to promote your business. The group is growing, and right now at the beginning stages (with less people) it's a great place to get some 1 on 1 feedback for anything design-related!
